Creating Your Account and Verification
Afto is currently accepting new accounts through the invite-only host prelaunch beta. Public guest signup and live guest booking are not open yet.
Account access during prelaunch
- Existing members: use Log in with your existing account.
- New invited hosts: start from Host prelaunch on the website or Join host beta in the mobile app, then enter a valid host invite code.
- New guests: you can browse public vehicle pages without an account. Guest account creation and checkout will open with the public marketplace.
There is no separate public guest-signup path during prelaunch. Opening the signup route without a valid host invite returns you to the host beta entry page.
Creating an invited host account
Afto validates the invite before account creation. The email flow sends a one-time verification code, then collects the account name, password, and mobile number. The mobile flow may also offer Sign in with Apple after the host invite has been validated. Google signup is not currently offered.
An existing signed-in member can accept a host invite without creating a second account. After enrollment, the same account works across the app and website and receives a personal host invite code. See Host Prelaunch Beta.
Driver verification
Host prelaunch access does not require a host to be eligible to book a car as a guest. Before any future guest booking can be completed, Afto requires a verified driver's license belonging to the account holder. Stripe Identity completes the identity checks in one secure flow:
- Capture your driver's license live. Stripe requires the device camera and does not allow an existing image upload.
- Take a live selfie. Stripe compares it with the photograph on the license.
- Confirm license eligibility. Afto receives the verification result and the fields needed for booking rules, including date of birth, issuing region, and expiration.
Date of birth is obtained through the identity-verification result; the current web signup form does not ask you to type it during account creation.
The verified driver's-license decision is the basic L2 level. If you're 18-20, a future booking also requires Afto Clear (L3), an additional evidence-based clearance that is distinct from L2. L3 is granted only after Afto reviews the required supporting evidence; uploading or verifying a license alone does not promote an account to L3.
Age requirements when guest booking opens
- 21 and older: you can book with any protection plan.
- 18-20 years old: you can still book after completing Afto Clear verification, but luxury and exotic vehicles are not eligible. You choose your own protection plan; there is no forced protection purchase. See Choosing a Protection Plan (Guest).
- Under 18: not eligible to book on Afto.
If verification fails or is delayed
- Unreadable license image: retry in even lighting with every edge and field visible.
- Selfie mismatch: retry in clear light without a face covering or glare on the license.
- License doesn't meet requirements: an expired, invalid, or otherwise ineligible license cannot receive the canonical verified decision required for booking.
- Still processing: use Check status from the verification screen or return after a few minutes.
- Stuck or think we made a mistake? Contact support and we'll take another look.
Most verification steps finish quickly, but Stripe may need more time to process a result. Browsing does not require verification.
